TransCanada Sponsorship of CPO War Music and Memorial Designed to Help Military Veterans Transition to Civilian Life
CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Nov. 8, 2012) - The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra presents "Afghanistan: Requiem for a Generation," an unforgettable commemoration of the end of Canada's active combat mission in one of the world's most war-torn countries. TransCanada is proud to co-sponsor this event with Cenovus Energy.
The world premiere event takes place on November 10, 2012, at 8 p.m. at EPCOR CENTRE's Jack Singer Concert Hall.
The Canadian Forces has been involved with Afghanistan since 2002 and over that time more than 150 soldiers have paid the ultimate sacrifice and many more have been severely injured in body, heart and mind.
"Partnering with the CPO is a natural fit for TransCanada because it builds on our existing support for our military veterans and we proudly support the men and women who have served their country with bravery and honour," says Sean McMaster, executive vice-president, stakeholder relations and general counsel, TransCanada Corporation, who is also the War & Peace Festival co-chair.
The evening is also a celebration of the commitment of our troops. The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, with support from TransCanada, commissioned two Canadian artists - war poet Suzanne Steele and composer Jeffrey Ryan - to create a distinctly Canadian War Requiem. It will serve as a memorial to the lives lost and sacrifices made by our Canadian soldiers through music and visual presentation featuring Canadian war art and imagery.
Tickets and information for this live music experience can be found through the CPO Box Office at 403.571.0849 or online at cpo-live.com.
McMaster also added that "building healthy and vibrant communities does not happen by chance. Just as our veterans have shown us for many years; it takes action, courage and dedication to make a difference. Strong Canadian communities are one reason TransCanada actively sought out partner organizations like the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. It's these like-minded associations that share our similar values and passion to support our returning troops."
To show TransCanada's ongoing commitment to these values, TransCanada has also partnered with Helmets to Hardhats. This organization is dedicated to helping veterans make the transition from active duty to meaningful careers in the construction industry, while bringing skilled and dedicated employees into our workforce. It's this type of commitment that both benefits our veterans and supports important trades within the construction industry.
TransCanada believes that the members of the Canadian Forces past and present deserve our gratitude, dedication and support to not only help Canadians remember the sacrifices they gave and continue to give, but also to provide opportunities through Helmets to Hardhats for their next career.
